Thanks all for the offers to help with my issues.  I'm replying to the
list to keep everyone in the loop.

I'm running 13.10 (64 bit version).

The branch I downloaded was for Trusty, following the instructions on
the ubuntu-manual.org website.

The version of TexLive I have installed is:

tlmgr revision 32912 (2014-02-08 00:49:53 +0100)
tlmgr using installation: /usr/local/texlive/2013
TeX Live (http://tug.org/texlive) version 2013
