Quick Update on CiviCRM packaging
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----
Hash: SHA1
Hello everybody,
I worked a bit more with Andrew on the CiviCRM packaging and wanted to
let you all know how things are going. The wiki page
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/NGO/ApplicationPackaging is up to date now too.
The CiviCRM package we have ready now currently builds a
civicrm-standalone package and a civicrm-drupal package (which just
contains the drupal bits and depends on the other one).
Two things require a lot of work now:
- testing: I don't know very much about CiviCRM itself and not much
about php web applications either. If you have example data to chuck
at CiviCRM that'd be great.
- packaging of CiviCRM dependencies: CiviCRM very conveniently ships a
lot of PHP modules that are required to run it. Unfortunately we're
not allowed to ship the same code twice in Ubuntu, so instead of
using the bundled bits and pieces we have to make the package depend
on Ubuntu system components (which in some cases are not packaged
yet).
On the wiki page you can see the state of the Unbundling, there's still
a lot to do. We want to coordinate the general packaging together with
Debian, so as soon as we have a couple of packages ready, we'll let the
Debian PHP maintainers know as well.
We'll put up a PPA soon, but will (for now) just upload the unbundled
modules, as the civicrm package (and tarball) itself is still very much
subject to change.
If you're interested in helping out, let Andrew or me know.
Have a great day,
Daniel
