Title:
Arch benchmark
Status in Ubuntu Packaging Guide:
Expired
Bug description:
Since this documentation projects stands a chance to sort out the mess
of Debian packages I have a couple of recommendations.
When you build an Arch package it's straightforward how a package
looks by vimming it. You need to demonstrate clearly how to basic
archaic Debian payload and control balls work with a binary package.
I.e. no debian/ Then go sadly into the world where stuff has to be
correctly named for X, Y, Z reason.
Then once that madness is out the way, then shoot for debian helper 7.
Show how dh $@ is the canonical way, and maybe one or two examples are
overrides that may be (unfortunately) necessary.
I think it's important to link to good real world examples (Daniel
Bauman's are great) in packages, like its trivial to do in Arch's
source control and encourage people to be minimalistic.
