Re: push to device messaging

 

I mean the push notifications you can send when something happens e.g. on
your server and you'd like to inform the users of your mobile app about
that event. Google and Apple offer services to handle that in a centralised
way. So this is not necessarily messaging, but notification about incoming
messages. An other scenario would be the notification about updates for
newspaper subscriptions.

It would be much better for battery consumption to implement this in a
similar fashion. But with a central service you would need servers to
handle all that traffic. There are a few pros and cons - no doubt.
