Ported tablet touch screen problem

I'm working on porting a tablet to Ubuntu Touch and now have it running mostly. The last issue is the touch screen. Its a Future tech with the ft5x_ts driver. First I should say, I use this same driver under Linaro LXDE and Android without problems. I'm not sure what exactly is different. I am using mir.

It responds some. It seems to not be inverted or swapped. However when I try to touch or swipe it generally doesn't register. If I try to swipe with multiple fingers it will work sometimes for left and right and up and down. I cannot seem to grab the 'peeks' though. I've noticed if I tap in the bottom corner of the screen I can get the settings pull down ( sometimes) and pressing a certain spot cycled through the options. However I could not select any options under the settings. Also if I end up in the search, which happens a lot, I can't escape it.

I'm not really sure where to start debugging. Under X there were are tools to report and modify the X/Y size, scale, etc. Is there something similar available? Are there any known touch screen issues I have to account for? Any and all thoughts appreciated, thanks.
