This is one of the few reasons the cdimage image is still being produced, for people wanting to use the device for development. Keep in mind that the cdimage image is not a valid testing target though.
Any other solutions anyone can think of to get around this issue would also be appreciated.
I personally bought a chromebook for building and have also embraced cross compiling.
