Just to disagree, I rather like the new ideas for the bottom edge. As an
app developer, whenever I use the toolbar I usually find I only have a
single action to put into the toolbar.
This always makes me wonder if the toolbar is warranted at all, and
leads me to try and think of extra actions that can go in, just so it
doesn't seem so empty and almost unneeded.
Surely, if I only need to provide a single action (which is most use
cases it seems), it is more beneficial to be able to do it in one
gesture, rather than having to use a gesture to reveal a toolbar with a
single button.
For example, one screen in my app allows you to add a new recipient.
This is the only optional action available, so why not make it
immediately accessible? I'd like to have another recipient component
just peeking over the bottom edge, and then the user can slide it out
onto the screen. This is a more immediate way to use the only available
optional action on the screen.
I also don't like that the toolbar pops open every time I go to a
screen. For example, every time I open contacts, the toolbar is covering
a noticeable portion of the screen, just to remind me that I can add a
new contact? I've seen this dozens of times already, just give me the
full view when I open it.
