[Design] New back button placement, are we serious ?!?
Hi guys,
In response to your previous emails about the new placement of the back
button:
The new header design is a solution to one of the most common problems that
we found in our user tests.
We discovered that users struggled to find the toolbar on the bottom edge
swipe. As a consequence of this, users didn't know how to navigate back to
the previous view.
We considered the solution being suggested: Keeping the toolbar where it
is, and making it fixed in the apps ui. But that option increases the
amount of chrome visible in the app, reducing content real estate; and
conflicts with the whole "bottom edge swipe" concept.
Placing the toolbar functionality on the header allows us to clear the ui
for the "bottom edge swipe" while making basic functionality (like the
"back") prominent and discoverable.
Cheers,
D.
