What about a jewelery dongle with some bluetooth or rfid in it?  Would
that be good enough?  If you fall out of proximity, the jewelery dongle
would beep or something discrete that you would understand there is a
theft.  It could have enough smarts to distinguish when you forget the
phone because you move and the phone accelerometers don't.  If it's a
theft, the phone accelerometers move and the jewelery dongle doesn't and
the dongle could beep differently.
