Right... you fell victim of this bug:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/unity8/+bug/1325984

Just use, say /usr/share/applications/webbrowser-app.desktop in the
desktop_file_hint arg and it should work... It will show up as the
browser, but hey... it's a workaround...
