Yes, that should be possible. You won't be too satisfied with the armhf
emulator as it is really, really slow, so I would recommend compiling it
yourself for the i386 emulator. Check if there is a README file with
build instructions, if not, try to simply press "run" after opening the
project with the Ubuntu SDK. ;)

Looks like the new version actually supports it.
Add an account → Go to account settings → Select your account →
Delete the sender identity → Add a new one and clear the signature
field.
