Bootloop after installing OTA4

Dear all,

about 2 hours ago (approx. 6:30 am CEST) I started the installation of OTA4.
However, ever since then my phone is stuck in a bootloop. Before installing the
update, which identified itself as "r23", I noticed that it was only about 230MB
in size instead of the 400+MB I expected.

Anyway, here is what my phone has been doing for the last 2 hours:
-show the BQ-logo on white background at full brightness for some seconds
-show the same screen for another couple of seconds but with dimmed brightness
-sometimes, show the rotating Ubuntu logo on a black background and emmit some
barely audible white noise from the loudspeaker
- after about 2 seconds, start all over

Is there a way to restore the phone? I have a computer sporting Linux Mint 17
with ADB installed and I am familiar with ADB and the command line in general.
If there is one, I need a way to restore the phone without wiping my home
partition as there are few photos on it that I haven't yet backed-up.

The phone still reacts to a press of "power + vol up" and enters the bootloader.
Last time I checked, however, the default recovery did not allow any connections
via ADB to be established so I am really not sure how to restore the phone.

Additionally, there is no way to turn it off since the bootloader does not offer
such an option.

Any help would be highly appreciated.
Torsten
