Hi ....  I've always used the regular method of transferring my 
Thunderbird stuff to a new Ubuntu installation by copying the 
.thunderbird directory from th old, int the new. It no longer works, and 
I am supposed to set up each email account separately.

So, I've reported it as a bug in ver. 38.8.0 on Xenial.

I've installed Evolution instead, and and am setting up the accounts on 
there.  Thunderbird has no provision for exporting the settings. 
Evolution has.  It has many other advantages,  sad about this, but I see 
no alternative unless mozilla are prepared to do something about the 
problem.
