Go to devices tab, and go to emulators
In the text box, create a new emulator name, such as MyEmulator
  Wait
Eventually this appears in the emulators list: open /home/rick/.local/share/ubuntu-emulator: permission denied

  The log looks like this:

Creating "MyEmulator" from devel-proposed revision 219
  Downloading...
  Setting up...
  Creating snapshots for disks...
Succesfully created emulator instance MyEmulator in /home/rick/.local/share/ubuntu-emulator/MyEmulator
  Search configured emulator instances.
