You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Emulator does not get launched after emulator target is chosen to run
automatically. A developer may feel lost if he cannot see the emulator
is running once the emulator is chosen to run. On other platforms'
development, if the emulator is not running, just start it, and get the
app running inside the emulator. Currently, it seems to me that we have
to manually launch the emulator ourselves
