[Bug 1342825] Re: Can not run scopes in emulator
AFAIK, Benjamin has been in touch with the Unity API guys, and IIRC
there were a few challenges with running scopes on the phone, such as
scopes being killed after a period of inactivity without any feedback to
QtC. For some of these challenges, we might need to find workarounds.
Some of my recommendations would be:
- Scope wizard to present the following message:
"We recommend Ubuntu 14.10 or later to develop scopes. If you are using Ubuntu 14.04 LTS, some functionality, such as launching scopes on the desktop, will not be available. Installing scopes on a device or on the emulator is however supported for 14.04 LTS and later."
- Either block desktop-based targets from being selected when creating a new scope project in 14.04 (not sure if it's possible), or make the Play (Ctrl+R) button display the message above.
- Provide a target to build and install a click package on the device/emulator
- Assess what possibilities we have to provide a target that does the click install and runs the scope on the device/emulator

Title:
Can not run scopes in emulator
Status in Qt Creator plugins for Ubuntu:
Confirmed
Status in “qtcreator-plugin-ubuntu” package in Ubuntu:
New
Bug description:
I have Trusty installed on my laptop using the sdk-team PPA for
QtCreator and plugins. I have created an i386 emulator based on
Utopic, and have created a Kit to use it. When I create a new Scope
project, the only target I have for the emulator's kit is
"simpletest", not the actual scope build target that I need to run it.
That target is available on the "Desktop" kit, but since my desktop is
Trusty and not Utopic that does not work.
Steps to repeat:
1) Start with a Trusty host with latest SDK
2) Create i386 emulator based on Utopic
3) Create a Kit for that emulator
4) Start the emulator
5) Create a new Unity Scope project
6) Add the emulator kit to the list of build/run environments
7) Switch to the emulator kit's build/run environment
8) See that only "simpletest" is an available run target
