[Bug 414617] Re: Ubuntu Server Tips: ifup and ifdown

I was trying not to make any assumptions about the user's level of
knowledge. I was looking to help people who are coming to the system
from another OS such as Solaris and who might not be familiar with the
Ubuntu Server way of doing things. For example in Solaris there is no
ifup or ifdown, you use ifconfig commands. If you think the line "Keep
in mind if you are connected via ssh and you bring down the interface
you are using you will be disconnected."

You can bring up a network interface by using sudo ifup interface , and you can bring it down using sudo ifdown interface. Keep in mind if you are connected via ssh and you bring down the interface you are using you will be disconnected.
