I've had same worries that the current operation mode can be
unintuitive. Perhaps you can raise your own concerns and what you'd see
as the most intuitive way to solve this in the original bug report:

  When I click to show hidden files, it not working. Option is 'ticked',
  but don't showing hidden files.
