Title:
Grub 1.97 Invalid Display When booting After Lucid Upgrade
Status in Ubuntu Translations:
Invalid
Status in “grub2” package in Ubuntu:
Invalid
Bug description:
This error occurred When upgrading from Karmic to Lucid. The process
was successful but I could not boot into the OS. My Grub 2 menu could
not be displayed as there was a 0 second delay. Pressing / holding
shift, esc, function keys etc etc, did nothing.
The was followed by disk activity then halted at a black screen with
funny colours on the top, Invalid display mode. A new screen as far
as I'm aware, was being display about mounting drives, press s to skip
or m for manual recovery. Since my display didn't work I couldn't see
the message.
I have since solved this issue.
If anyone else has this issue then it prevents you from getting into
the OS, press S to skip this menu & invalid display mode, you will
then be shown the login screen. The mount screen was solved by
commenting out an invalid mount point in a file (fstab i think)
I hope this helps & i hope this doesn't happen to others trying the
upgrade.
