How can I try Ubuntu TV?

Hi, I want to build a modest PC to watch downloaded videos, listen to
music, browse the web and use as a domestic file sharing and download
server.

I want to try ubuntu-tv but there's no ppa or something. So,

What can I do to try Ubuntu TV and what are the minimum system
requirements to play 1080p mkv files on it?
