This was before using oxide, which has a much more reliable mechanism to set and override the user-agent.
I’ve tested both use cases mentioned in the description and they work as expected (i.e. I get the mobile versions of both wikipedia and ebay from the start).

Bug description:
  Using the new scopes preview to open a search result for e.g.
  wikipedia or ebay opens the desktop version of the website. Following
  a link within the browser or reloading the page (or both) triggers the
  mobile site version to be used.
