[Bug 1421717] Re: Ubuntu Phone: User agent has "Android", then the web is offering install Android application into the Play Store

This is a known issue, and unfortunately there is no easy solution to
it. As you noticed, the actual token in the UA string reads "like
Android", to inform websites that we’re not exactly android, yet we have
similar capabilities.

The real issue is with an overwhelming majority of websites making the
broken assumption that a modern touch device has to be an iphone or an
android device. Anything else gets served crappy content from the
nineties.

One thing we discussed in the past that would help mitigate the issue is
to intercept redirections to the android play store and display an
informative message to the user to explain the situation in simple
words. That wouldn’t really fix the issue though.

Title:
Ubuntu Phone: User agent has "Android", then the web is offering
install Android application into the Play Store

Status in Web Browser App:
  Won't Fix

Bug description:
  Hi!

One string in the user agent in Ubuntu Phone is: "Ubuntu 14.04 like Android 4.4".
With this "Android" word, the webs are showing "Install application" and you're redirect to the Play Store.

  Thanks in advance!
