Been using the computer all day on 171 with no hangs. Also the iPod
syncs with vmplayer without hanging as well.

So either the 180.44 is problematic with the 7300 GS or the fact that
Ubuntu automatically installed the nvidia-180-libvdpau is a problem. I
suggest that as a possible problem as I do not believe the 7300 GS is a
vdpau capable card.

Either way, it seems that 171 is much more stable.
