I can reproduce the behavior with and without the livecd (ubuntu in both
cases, NOT KUbuntu). The system hang while the mouse still responses to
my input. On my current install Compiz and Metacity composite are OFF
but with mondoplus website the system still hang. With Compiz ON the
system hang often and there's no way to go anywhere (even TTY) and mouse
cursor is not working. The model of my ATI is:

01:00.0 VGA compatible controller [0300]: ATI Technologies Inc RV350
[Mobility Radeon 9600 M10] [1002:4e50]

If you need more test or more behavior to test just ask, I'm glad to
help to resolve this annoying problem.
