[Bug 282214] Re: Nvidia does not work with Geforce 6100
apparently, i did not quite remove all the modules. even tho the nvidia
driver compiles the kernel module, apparently it doesn't get used unless
the other modules are removed. running 'apt-get remove --purge nvidia*'
beforehand did the trick. i now have 185.18.04 installed. however, i
still cannot use 1280x1024 resolution. the monitor supports that mode.
it is a dell 1901fp and i was using that mode in ms windows. the only
thing i see above that i haven't tried is starting with ubuntu 8.04 and
upgrading to 8.10 and then 9.04?? how ridiculous ;) i'm not going to do
that. is that really necessary? there is obviously something related
to nvidia/xorg that is in place on ubuntu 8.04 that doesn't get wiped
away due to the upgrade process, i would guess. isn't there a way to
force 1280x1024 in xorg.conf or something? this seems so simple...
