I use the Chameleon-large at 32 pixels.

Additional Information:

I use compiz, but only on screen 1 of 2 (:0.0) because with 9.04 compiz will not composite scree 2 (:0.1)   Compiz regularly stops compositing, and I restart it with the command:
    compiz  --display :0.0 --only-current-screen --replace &
from a terminal.

The screen garbage occurs after compiz is "restarted"
