I've recently had a lot of problems with the proprietary ATI drivers and
I think I've also seen this bug. My system is a HP EliteBook 6930p with
a Mobility Radeon HD 3400 Series graphics card.

If the people experiencing this bug are running Xinerama, it could be
related to bug 355841, which also affected me. (As this prevented me
from even logging in, I've used the free drivers since then, but have
experienced other issues there...)

By the way, installed restricted modules in my case:
linux-restricted-modules-2.6.24-21-generic
linux-restricted-modules-2.6.27-11-generic
linux-restricted-modules-2.6.28-11-generic
