I tried  xserver-xorg-video-intel -
2:2.7.99.1+git20090528.704771f1-0ubuntu0morgwai1 but got the same
result: black screen with working mouse.

Note that unlink Piotr's case, I can Alt+Ctrl+Fn just fine and restart the server with 
  /etc/init.d/gdm restart

Maybe these are two distinct bugs with similar symptoms?
