I just updated to the latest available versions of the following
packages, and both windowed-mode and full-screen mode in Blender seem to
work fine.

compiz-plugins
compiz-kde
compiz-gnome
compiz-wrapper
compiz
compiz-core

The Version number of the above packages is: 1:0.8.2-0ubuntu8.1
