[Bug 677700] Re: Touchpad single-click registers double-click, and sometimes two middle-clicks

apport information

** Description changed:

Using Synaptics touchpad, set to use single-clicks instead of double-clicks.
Ubuntu 10.10 Maverick, 64-bit (clean install) on a Lenovo IdeaPad Y510
Single-clicks and tap-to-clicks register as double-clicks, and other weirdness

Often and randomly, the left-click and sometimes the tap-to-click will
register double-clicks instead of single-clicks. This results in
problems like closing tabs in browsers when clicking on them. Also
affects drags, which horribly screws up text when trying to drag a chunk
of text from one place to another in the document. At times just moving
the mouse across a document will result in selecting text, despite the
fact that no double-click occurred to actually select any text, and the
unintentionally-selected text is then dragged or copied and pasted to
some other part of the document.

Have also noticed that at times a single-click or tap-to-click results
in something like two middle-clicks, or even a right-click and then the
top-menu item. For instance, clicking on a tab in Chromium or Firefox
doesn't simply select the tab, but instead opens two new tabs.

- This is a new problem on Maverick; it's never happened in the past, and
- doesn't occur using Windows in a virtual machine. I've seen similar bug
- reports, but they're old and for regular mice, not for touchpads. I'm
- not sure what debugging info to offer since this is so random and
- doesn't result in an actual crash.
