I have the same bug. Since the upgrade to Maverick my X freezes
randomly. The mouse cursor is still moveable, but the rest of the screen
shows otherwise no reaction. I'm using nouveau.

01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: nVidia Corporation GT216 [GeForce GT
330M] (rev a2)

I just added this line in grub.conf

nouveau.noaccel=1

And not yet freeze ;-) I touch wood ;-)
