[Bug 396655] Re: Intel ghraphics - VideoRam value locked. X.org Disregards manual value
** Attachment added: "Xorg.0.log"
http://launchpadlibrarian.net/28771085/Xorg.0.log
** Description changed:
Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel
I have an integrated intel video card 4500m - (lspci - 00:02.1 Display
controller: Intel Corporation Mobile 4 Series Chipset Integrated
- Graphics Controller (rev 07)).
+ Graphics Controller (rev 07) running on Ubuntu Jaunty.
The card has 64mb of ram built into it and the rest it steals from the
system's memory. According to intel's specifications the total ammount
of memory the card can have is 768mb (windows indeed allocates this
amount for the card, Ubuntu however allocates only 256mb of VideoRam for
the card's activities (Fredora allocates 512mb).
I tried to give the card more memory by adding the appropriate line to
xorg.xonf (512mb)
VideoRam 524288
but for some reason the system decides it is "no longer a recommended value"
(WW) intel(0): VideoRam configuration found, which is no longer recommended.
(II) intel(0): Continuing with default 262144kB VideoRam instead of 524288 kB.
(II) intel(0): Kernel reported 474880 total, 1 used
(II) intel(0): I830CheckAvailableMemory: 1899516 kB available
(II) intel(0): [DRI2] Setup complete
(**) intel(0): Framebuffer compression enabled
(**) intel(0): Tiling enabled
(**) intel(0): SwapBuffers wait enabled
(**) intel(0): VideoRam: 262144 KB
(II) intel(0): Attempting memory allocation with tiled buffers.
(II) intel(0): Tiled allocation successful.
The same goes for any other amount of memory, the system simply impies that it knows better what I want than doing what I ask it to do. I would very much like to increase the amount of ram allocated for my card, using Ubuntu, at least to 512mb (like in Fedora) (mainly for caching a lot of textures).
attached are my xorg.conf file and Xorg.0.log
(I'm using the experimental xserver-xorg-video-intel 2:2.7.99.901 but it was the same with previous versions of the driver)
