Hmm, switching on vblank syncing has had unforeseen side effects when
we've done that in other drivers.  When it's not already set as the
default by upstream, it makes me suspect that it's that way for good
reasons...  Since you find this doesn't fully mitigate the issue, I'd be
tempted to nak and investigate a better solution.

@Alberto, what are your thoughts?
