Wheel emulation using vertical drag+middle button is a very reasonable expectation,
as well as the behavior seen on windows, as shipped with Thinkpad laptops.

However it is not enabled by default in Ubuntu, and one has to install and use
gpointing-device-settings to achieve this behavior.

Perhaps, there should be a special system, combining a bunch of input (or maybe other) 
device presets with a laptop model detection mechanism.
