[Bug 698121] [NEW] xf86OpenConsole: VT_WAITACTIVE failed: Interrupted system call
You have been subscribed to a public bug:
Binary package hint: firefox
System randomly freezes requiring a hardware reset to restart. System
comes up normally with restart. Upwards of 50% of the time the cursor
is on the right hand vertical browser scroll bar; another 40% somewhere
on a gui browser screen and the remaining occurrences like the one shown
below while editing in a text terminal. Browser in use with this
failure was Seamonkey Browser (thinking perhaps it was a Firefox error),
but normally Firefox.
When system starts up initially it runs fine and fast but over the next
hour becomes extremely sluggish. The system cpu shows very low
utilization so unless something is running that isn't being monitored,
it doesn't appear to be looping. File activity and memory utilization
is quite low as well.
A review of system logs shows; as noted below in the Xorg.1.log file:
Fatal server error:
xf86OpenConsole: VT_WAITACTIVE failed: Interrupted system call
which hopefully is a clue.
Any thoughts would be appreciated. This is an application development
workstation / server so I need it to work.
Unable to run ubuntu-bug /Apport since it's not clear which package is
at fault and since the PID is no longer active after the required
hardware reset and reboot.
