Got Maverick "almost" working as per instructions of comment #137. Took
a while, though.

There are still some issues in Maverick, however, although they mostly
are not related to this bug. There is one thing, however, which might be
related to the instructions in #137: The "Software Sources" line has
disappeared from the desktop, ie. from System -> Administration. And
because #137 instructs to edit the /etc/apt/sources.list, I wonder if
the disappearance was caused by that. Copying the back-up file back to
sources.list did not help. I can still get to the "Software Sources"
through Synaptic (Settings -> Repositories), but the direct link is
missing.
