I will do this some time this weekend.
Since then I have downgraded the intel driver and the xorg in my 9.04
by adding the repository for older intel drivers and choosing 'force
version' in synaptic.

Now compiz will not work, but the segfault causes the WM to default to Metacity.
This is preferable to a white screen.

eye candy is nice but a useable system is more important. Metacity is
fine for everyday work.

I will burn the CD, boot and send a set copies of the logs this weekend.
