[Bug 716816] Re: [i865] GPU lockup 09bb734f (PGTBL_ER: 0x00000029 IPEHR: 0x02000011)
> This error happens a lot on the alpha-2, so I can't pinpoint which
software is responsible.
The bug is in the linux kernel actually, but in the graphics drm code
most likely.
Unfortunately we are not providing X development support in the distro
for 8xx graphics cards, as we've found it to be too labor intensive to
provide development support for these older chipsets directly in the
distro. Instead, I would recommend you work directly with upstream by
filing a bug report at https://bugs.freedesktop.org/, as they're in a
better position to validate fixes and work with you to test their future
changes.
If you have found that it occurs in alpha-2 but didn't happen
previously, my guess would be a regression between the .37 and .38
kernels. If you still have .37 around you could boot that up and see if
it reproduces there. If not, then you might try git bisection to hone
in on the problematic patch. Again though, I think you should work with
upstream directly on this issue.
Sorry that this probably isn't the news you hoped to hear... but good
luck and I hope you're able to find a speedy resolution working with
them.
