Thanks Liam, I've fed this information upstream.

It appears likely that all these i915/i945 lockup bugs may be related to
a common root cause, potentially fixed by this patch:

    drm/i915: fix relaxed tiling for gen <= 3 && !g33
    
    g33/pineview doesn't have any alignment constrains for unfenced tiled
    buffers. But older chips have. Fix this.
