Fourth problem... from the logs it looks like first nouveau tried
loading, and things seemed to be going ok but then -intel popped into
the mix and started loading (this is what generated the crash).

Perhaps the first three problems are all effects of this problem.

Ok, I think you need to give a deeper explanation about your system, it
looks odd.  Does it have i865 graphics on board but an nvidia graphics
chip in addition to that?  What else can you tell me about the system?
