[Bug 742174] Re: [g45] GPU lockup while refreshing synaptic db
>From the log it looks like the system ran out of memory, probably same
as bug 742175, and then X crashed since it didn't have memory. Like
that, my guess is it's *probably* not X but some other client that's
gobbling memory. But I can try to help you diagnose the problem better.
Did you just upgrade from maverick today? Or had you been running natty
for some time and this just started after an update today? If the
latter, please attach your /var/log/dpkg.log.
Are you able to reproduce this on every boot? Or did it only fail this
way this one time?

On Unity desktop the desktop sometimes becomes unresponsive while
refreshing the update db within synaptic or update-manager. Mouse
movement still works but nothing is clickable. Switching to the F1-F6
TTYs and rebooting from there works.
