but how do I know what package it might be? (how do you that it's xserver-
org?)
I suspected the "hal" package because the old dapper configuration with 
xorg.conf worked fine, then the problem appeared with the new hal "all-in-one-
hide-all" thing (I really don't know how to configure hal! can I at all?).

sorry, I don't want to criticize, only wonder how?
