I don't think it's the ABI issue that I brought up with pitti. The ABI issue would have only allowed the old package to be installed.
To be honest, I'm not really sure about what's going on in this report.
On the one hand the provided information suggests that 8.840 was built
and installed without problems:
DkmsStatus: fglrx, 8.840, 2.6.38-7-generic, x86_64: installed
On the other hand, as Robert pointed out, the attached make.log shows
that DKMS fglrx 8.801 failed to build.
I don't see how this is possible, therefore I need to know at least the
following details from the original reporter:
1) Had the driver been previously installed using AMD's installer?
2) Did the user try to reinstall the previous fglrx package before filing the bug report with "ubuntu-bug"?
