For something which you think is a different problem, or *is* a
different problem or hardware, *always* file another bug report. Better
to have 100 bug reports separated than 100 problems in 1 report.

It looks like the upstream bug report has stagnated, do they need
reporting back on the test case, or just forgot about it?
