[Bug 753910] [NEW] connect to docking station, display mirrors, corrupts
You have been subscribed to a public bug:
unity:
Installed: 3.8.2-0ubuntu1
There are a raft of very bad usability issues with docking my laptop
(Thinkpad X200 1280x800, Displayport monitor 1600x1200 res). It's a
serious usability problem.
* [Update: this applies to classic desktop too, so is not a Unity bug]:
The display always goes to mirroring on minimum shared resolution. This
is not what I want - it's about as far from what I might want as it
could be. I have to find/use the monitors app and make complex multi-
step changes *every single time* to get where I want: only external
display. I chose "set as default" in the Montors app to no apparent
effect; it's not clear to me what else or more I can do. The display is
heavily corrupted sometimes during this, with black areas around. I'll
try to get screenshots or photos.
* [Update: this is now fixed as of 3.8.4]: The notification icons in
the top right get duplicated and the Ubuntu logo top left disappears
(sometimes). Using the mouse to unhide the launcher never works
properly; it gets stuck half way out, never retracts. The keyboard
Super key will coax it out and escape can force it to go away
* probably as a result of the period at very low res, many apps get
forced automatically to maximized state. This is really annoying and
particularly confusing in association with:
* all my apps get sent to workspace 1 and have to be redistributed...
** Affects: unity
Importance: Low
Status: Invalid
** Affects: xorg-server (Ubuntu)
Importance: Low
Status: Incomplete
