[Bug 754284] [NEW] Modeset code fixed with update in 10.10 regressed in 11.04
*** This bug is a security vulnerability ***
You have been subscribed to a public security bug:
This problem was fixed in 10.10 with an update. While not using nomodeset, sometime incorrect commands would be sent to the display causing errors such as entering low-power mode, flickering or simply going blank. In particular, my Samsung television enters a standby mode that is otherwise inaccessible by the consumer. It turns on and off repeatedly as a result of a command being sent by the display driver. Honestly, I didn't know it was possible, but you may want to look at the fix for 10.10 as the solution for 11.04 and maybe exploit this error to gain a little more functionality of HDMI televisions.
I consider this bug a security vulnerability because it causes otherwise inaccessible functions of the display hardware to become accessible at the hardware level.
