[Bug 715096] Re: [i945gm] GPU lockup (ESR: 0x00000001 IPEHR: 0x02000011)
Aside from testing the newer upstream kernel, I've also prepared this
PPA with a change to the X driver that is believed to fix some of these
gpu lockups on i915/i945:

Please give it a try. When you do, make sure to boot against the stock
ubuntu kernel. Otherwise we won't be sure whether it is this ppa or the
upstream kernel that fixes it.
The upside to getting proof that this PPA solves it, is that we may be
able to get this fix into natty, whereas if it is only fixed by newer
kernel code, we still need to isolate what patch in the kernel does it.
And, this late in the cycle we likely won't be able to get kernel fixes
in so they'll have to be processed as SRUs.
