[Bug 754777] Re: [sandybridge-m-gt2] GPU lockup (Blitter IPEHR: 0x13000002, Render IPEHR: 0x02000006)
Hi Bryce, thank you for your help.
I had reported more than 5 bug reports of this issue ( I don't actually remember the numbers, and some of them were marked as "it affected me", did not reported as new thread). Here is another bug that I report:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/761957
The freeze happened on my laptop almost every bootup when I use 'intel' driver (means there is no "/etc/X11/xorg.conf").
My computer is a brand new bought HP laptop with Intel Sandy Bridge I5 2410m CPU and an integrated GPU (HD3000). The old Ubuntu release did not support Sandy Bridge GPU (refer to http://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=news_item&px=ODk2OA ), so I fresh installed Natty.
Sure I can reproduce the freeze, but I can not confirm which software caused this problem. Usually it happened with LibreOffice, Firefox, Chrome, gnome-terminal, gedit. Sometime when GUI frozen, my mouse point can still moving but keyboard is dead. I like Gnome classic (with 3D effect) so it's sure no Unity process running. I will try to disable 3D effect and test the old driver and new PPA driver when I back home, then it's possible to remote login and kill X process when the lockup happened.
