[Bug 759934] Re: [q45] GPU lockup (IPEHR: 0x09ccd180)

The mesa 7.10.1 -> 7.10.2 update looks pretty noteworthy. xorg-server's
upgrade from 1.10.0 -> 1.10.0.902 is notable as well. In both cases
though the changes are *mostly* upstream bugfixes. On other bug reports
I've had some suspicions of a regression related to one or the other of
those.

For gpu lockups, the linux kernel is almost always high in the suspects
list. Your log shows you upgraded from 2.6.38-8.41 to 2.6.38-8.42.
Looking at the changelog
(https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/2.6.38-8.42) nothing jumps
out to me as X related though.

The -intel change is a single patch fix for a kwin corruption issue.
AFAIK there's been no side effects for this patch.

Changes were made to compiz, nux, unity, and grub. Changes in these
packages certainly could be triggering a lockup, although that would be
a bit surprising.

The libx11 change was just a multiarch build fix, probably not relevant.

Are you able to reproduce this bug relatively easily? If so, it could
help if you would assist in narrowing down which package brought the
regression. I've listed the packages in this comment roughly in the
order of likelihood. However, it might be easiest to rule out the
kernel (boot to the older kernel if it's still installed) and/or
unity+compiz+nux (boot to Classic Desktop/No Effects).
