@badhorse, your graphics chip is several generations behind Robin's so
my guess would be that you're having an unrelated gpu lockup.  We've had
several reports of i915 lockups, and I have a patched X driver available
in my fig ppa that a number people find seems to fix it that you could
try.  But please don't place comments on this bug report, as it is
particular to a different chipset.
